A: Taverner is the most common subspecies of Canada geese that frequent the area and the Refuge in particular. They migrate south from the Canadian and Alaskan Tundra country on their journey south each year. While there are many Taverners that remain year round, as many as 100,000 Taverners stop in fall and winter to feed before heading for the warmer climates south.

They are recorded with the County and become part of the title for ownership of each home.
